Tele-medicine/E-health Network

Providing healthcare in Nepal is challenging due to the difficult geographic terrain, limited availability of funding and many other issues. In order to match the success achieved in this area by many developed countries, it is necessary to efficiently use the available resources. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is one of the few technologies in medicine that continues to become more affordable and efficient. Therefore, phect-NEPAL utilizes ICT wherever possible. As a result, telemedicine and tele-education have become distinctive features of phect-NEPAL.

At present, 10 rural sites are linked with KMH by video conferencing facilities. Regular tele-consultation and continuing medical education (CME) sessions via video conferencing are held at KMH. In addition, regular video conferencing with universities in the USA, Japan and Korea assist in solving challenging clinical problems and provide the opportunity to share knowledge. More advanced telemedicine practices are expected to be achieved at KMH in the near future. For example, phect-NEPAL is preparing to develop virtual classrooms in remote areas of Nepal to advance the level of care available from local health care providers.
